Carmistin Backs Ugandan Equator Camp, Paves Way for New Education Campus

In August 2023, Romanian agri-food leader Carmistin deepened its commitment to community development by supporting one of the most remote humanitarian efforts on the African continent.

Through a partnership with Romanian humanitarian Mihai Brasov and non-profits including Hearts Without Borders, A Future for Orphans Uganda, and Alux.com, a team of 16 Romanian volunteers — doctors, nurses, teachers, psychologists, and builders — traveled to Uganda to participate in Camp Equator, a grassroots initiative aimed at delivering healthcare, education, and essential infrastructure to underserved regions.

The group’s efforts were felt in multiple towns including Busega, Iganga, Kayabwe, and Kisoro, where they launched educational sessions, supported local health interventions, and helped expand critical infrastructure.

Notably, the Carmistin Foundation financed key equipment for the mission, including two dental chairs used to treat over 120 patients. More than 1,200 individuals received medical care over the course of the camp. The volunteers also installed solar panels, built irrigation wells, created solar gardens, and distributed medicines and food to those in dire need.

Looking ahead, Carmistin is set to support the construction of a permanent educational campus in Uganda — a facility that will include a primary school, vocational center, campus farm, sports infrastructure, and accommodation for teachers and volunteers.

This marks a significant expansion of Carmistin’s ESG footprint beyond Romania’s borders, showing that sustainable development doesn’t stop at national scale — it moves with people, partnerships, and purpose.
