Solar Partnership Powers Shelter for Mothers and Children
Apr 15, 2023

In the heart of southern Romania, clean energy has found a new home. At the Prundeni headquarters of the “Piticii Veseli” Association a shelter offering refuge to mothers and children in crisis, a newly installed photovoltaic system is now meeting 85% of the facility’s energy needs. The solar plant, a result of a powerful collaboration between AREVDD, Fundația Carmistin, and Simtel Team, marks a fresh milestone in a growing national movement toward socially driven energy reform.
This isn’t just a one-off initiative. Since 2021, the partnership has implemented solar solutions across 13 locations, delivering 4.4 MWp of installed capacity. The latest 10 kWp plant in Prundeni comprises 22 solar panels spread over 43 square meters. It will generate over 11,000 kWh annually cutting both operational costs and more than 5 tonnes of CO₂ each year.
But the numbers only tell part of the story. Founded in 2021, “Piticii Veseli” is more than a shelter. It’s a lifeline for children aged 7 to 14 and their mothers, offering safety, stability, and hope in times of deep uncertainty.
This project isn’t just about energy. It’s about dignity, resilience, and building a future where social care and sustainability walk hand in hand.
