Water for Life: Carmistin Backs Romanian-Led Wells Initiative Across Africa
Aug 28, 2023

In the summer of 2023, Romanian agri-food group Carmistin added its name to a growing list of donors fuelling one of Africa’s most quietly transformative projects: the construction of life-saving wells in water-scarce regions.
The company contributed to the Springs and Wells initiative, an ambitious campaign launched by a team of Romanian volunteers that, to date, has delivered 187 functional springs and wells across 17 African countries including Angola, Ethiopia, D.R. Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, and Uganda.
In places where access to clean water remains a daily struggle, the project is more than a humanitarian gesture, it’s a lifeline. By backing it, Carmistin signals a growing appetite among European companies to pair local scale with global responsibility.
“For us, sustainability isn’t just about food systems, it’s about human systems,” said a spokesperson for the group.
The Springs and Wells network now extends from West to East Africa, from Benin to Tanzania, offering clean, stable water sources to hundreds of communities previously left behind.
It’s a reminder that meaningful impact doesn’t always come with headlines. Sometimes, it flows quietly, drop by drop.
